Join JET's APEX group! Parent officers/ volunteers needed. Contact the school for details.
The APEX group is the name given to the PTO at J.E.T. Middle School. It stands for Active Parents Enhancing eXcellence. Many times when children reach the middle school age parents feel that they do not need to have as much of a "hands on approach" to their child's education as they did when they were in elementary school.
The parents at J.E.T. Middle School do not have this philosophy, for we see the need to be actively involved in our children's education in order to enhance their education in any and every way possible. The APEX group is actively involved in chaperoning dances and field trips. We coordinate raffles, contests, and the "JET's Got Talent" talent show in order to raise money for ongoing projects at J.E.T. Our most recent project is the enhancement of the area behind the school.
The APEX group has spent over $10,000 trying to provide an outdoor area for our children that is conducive to a variety of activities while the children are at recess or on their lunch break. The group has purchased picnic tables and trees for this area. We have also put in an outside volleyball court and have put in a basketball court. We are currently working to buy some awnings for each grade wing of this area, and we also hope to further enhance our outdoor classroom. Through donations the APEX group was able to acquire rocking chairs and several wooden picnic tables and planters for this area, but we still have much to do. In addition to the above, the APEX group is also actively involved in Sarah's Santa, an outreach program at Christmas for the underpriviledged children in our area. Finally, we fully support our teachers and try to take every opportunity we can to let them know how much we appreciate them. We try to do this at least 3 times a year... at the beginning of school, during National Education Week, and during Teacher Appreciation Week.
So come join us!! We have only one to two meetings a year, but we get a lot of work done through e-mails and phone calls. It only takes giving your time and talents along with $5 to join.
Membership dues for the 2011-12 school year are currently being accepted. Your student can ask for a membership form for you from his/her homeroom teacher.
