Principal's Message

Dear WEP Families,

On behalf of our entire staff, welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. The staff of W. E. Parker is committed to providing the best possible education for your child. We are excited about our school’s accomplishments and the growing opportunities for student learning that are developing at Parker. Our main goals continue to be ensuring all students’ social and learning needs are met; increasing student achievement; and providing a safe, nurturing and secure school environment. We believe that these goals can be achieved if we all work together.

We encourage parental involvement and value your input in all aspects of your child’s education.
This includes volunteering, reading with your child and helping with assigned homework,
attending parent meetings and conferences, participating in school functions, and stressing the importance and value of an education within your home. Our school’s pledge is another way for you to help. Talk about the 4 components of the pledge with your child and point out what respect for self, others, property, and learning looks like in various situations.

We have several means of communication. Through Power School, you will have access to your child’s grades, attendance, and behavior. This system is a great way for parents to stay informed and to keep current with your child’s academic progress. Each Friday, we will send home the Parker Page to keep you informed of our monthly/weekly activities and events. Another system that we have to better communicate with parents is “One Call”. “One Call” allows the school to send automated calls to our families informing them of school events and activities, reminders or emergencies. Please keep us updated with the latest contact information to ensure that you receive the messages. You may also take advantage of our homework hot line to check behind your child when he/she says he forgot the assignments or doesn’t have homework. Students are also given agendas to record their assignments and for you to make comments. Of course, we strive to keep our marquee and school web-site updated with the upcoming events for the week/month.

We look forward to working with you and your child this year. Remember it takes all of us working together! Please take a few minutes to go over and discuss the handbook with you child. If you have any questions, please call or stop by.

Sincerely,

Gaye W. Holmes
