Melick Named Distinguished Teacher of Literacy

Merriwether Middle School’s Distinguished Teacher of Literacy for the 2022-2023 school year is Mrs. Melissa Melick. Melick is the Instructional Coach and works closely with teachers to provide rich instruction that meets state standards while also addressing the specific needs of the school’s student population. Prior to her role as Instructional Coach, she spent seven years teaching middle school Language Arts.

“Mrs. Melick’s experience as a classroom teacher makes her an invaluable resource for our teachers and our students,” says Antwaun Hillary (Assistant Principal). “She makes our instruction stronger and creates a professional environment where teachers can collaborate and help each other grow.”

When asked about this recognition, Melick states, “I’m honored to be chosen as the Distinguished Teacher of Literacy. I have always loved reading; therefore, I try to instill that love of reading in the students at MMS. I think it is important for students to find a text that they love so that they can get lost in it. J.K. Rowling said it best when she said, ‘I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.”

Congratulations to Merriwether Middle School’s 2022-2023 Distinguished Teacher of Literacy, Mrs. Melissa Melick.
