Johnston, SC – The Strom Thurmond High School varsity softball team jumped out to an early lead in Thursday's (March 16) opening game of a doubleheader with the Batesburg-Leesville Lady Panthers and the Lady Rebels never looked back en route to an 18-3 win.

The Lady Rebels also took the second game of the doubleheader, winning 15-0. The victories moved the Lady Rebels to 8-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in Region 3-AA competition.

The Lady Rebels' head coach, Drake Dunlap, says his team must continue to improve and develop as the season progresses.

"We still need to learn how to play through some adversity and continue to build our confidence," stated Dunlap.

The team includes Addy Harrison, Olivia Grant, Reagan Clark, Linsey Corley, Savannah Agner, Emmy McKie, Kinley French, Madison Rodriquez, Jules Sides, Lauren Strock, Leigh Anne Strock, Sara Beth McKie, Lawson Lowe, Carson Mims, and Halynn Smith.

The team's assistant coaches are Ashlee Chinn, Greg Clark and Brandon Smith.

The Lady Rebels held a special presentation between the two ballgames to honor members of the Johnston Sports Club, represented by Mr. Andy Livingston, for their generous donation to the STHS softball program. Lady Rebel seniors Savannah Agner and Lauren Strock presented Mr. Livingston with a signed ball on behalf of the team.

Funds from the donation were used to purchase a new wind screen, portable hitting nets and tees. Remaining funds will support future needs of the softball program.
