Experienced School Administrator and Special Needs Educator Steve English to Serve as Assistant Principal at JET Middle School for the 2023-2024 School Year

Johnston, SC – Steve English has quickly established himself as a valued and trusted member of the Edgefield County School District (ECSD) family. So much so that when interim school leadership was needed, he answered the call.

He received another call this week after being approved by members of the Edgefield County Board of Education on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, as the assistant principal at JET Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year.

“Steve has a tremendous amount of administrative experience and special education knowledge at both the middle and high school levels and we are thrilled to have him join the JET Middle School family for the upcoming school year,” stated ECSD Superintendent, Dr. Kevin O’Gorman. “He will be a valuable addition to the team at JET Middle School.”

English says he is grateful for the trust placed in him by Superintendent O’Gorman, to serve as an interim building leader in several ECSD schools this year.

“It felt good that Dr. O’Gorman would trust me to serve in that capacity and I very much appreciate that,” stated English. “In that role I just try to make sure things continue along as smoothly as possible because that’s the most important thing for everyone, that consistency. I know I’m not the person placed in that (permanent) role, but I want everything to work as well as it possibly can while I’m there.”

He is also ready to embrace his new role as assistant principal at JET Middle School.

“I am really excited about the opportunity to serve as assistant principal at JET Middle School,” commented English. “I’ve worked there for half a year this school year and have really enjoyed working with (principal) Mrs. Courtney, the staff, and the students there. It's a unique school with so much positivity and potential and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

His educational background includes a Master of Educational Administration degree in Educational Leadership (Phoenix University); a Master of Education degree in Educational Theory (Southern Wesleyan University); a Master of Divinity degree in Theology (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary); and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (University of South Carolina). He also holds professional certifications in Educational Leadership and Special Education.

His career in education began as a special education teacher in 2001. Prior to returning to special education in 2021 as a teacher with ECSD, English served as a special education coordinator, director of extended school year education, adult education teacher, behavior specialist, and high school assistant principal and principal.

The time English spent at JET Middle provided all the motivation needed to apply for the position of assistant principal.

“It’s going to be exciting to be working with the same students the entire school year,” commented English. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

English will begin his new role as assistant principal at JET Middle School in July.
