District Staff, Board Members and Colleagues Celebrate Retirees and 20-Year Employees
Johnston, SC - The Edgefield County School District celebrated two very special groups of ECSD family members during its annual Employee Retirement & Appreciation Celebration, held Thursday evening (5/25) in the new Strom Thurmond High School Gymnasium.
A combined twenty-five retirees and employees who have been with the school district for 20 years were recognized and honored for their dedicated service to our students and families.
Retirement honorees included Ann Johnson and Evelyn Mathis (Douglas Elementary); Cheryl Fischer (District Office); Donna Higgenbottom (J-E-T Middle); Mary Bouknight and Jacqueline Martin (Johnston Elementary); Lenora Brighthop, Mary Kay Dorr and Christine McManus (Merriwether Elementary); Diane Cartrett, Carolyn Chamberlain and Cynthia Grose (Merriwether Middle); Denise Jackson and Michael Key (Strom Thurmond High); Robin Herrin, Diana Korycki, Constance Shannon and Lisa Skinner (Strom Thurmond Career & Technology Center); and Ashley Olsen (W.E. Parker Elementary).
District employees who were honored for 20 years of service included Allison Rawls (J-E-T Middle); Audrey Coleman, Gwendolyn Griffin and Bobbi Powell (Merriwether Elementary); and John Jackson and Leslie Schumpert (W.E. Parker Elementary).
Guests and honorees were welcomed by Edgefield County School Board (ECSB) Chairperson, Ms. Robin Ball, and the evening's invocation was provided by ECSB Secretary, Dr. Willie Campbell. The evening's delicious meal of barbecue and sides was provided by Mr. John Abney and staff.
Superintendent, Dr. Kevin O'Gorman, introduced the evening's guest speaker, Ms. Jacqueline Simpkins. Ms. Simpkins congratulated the District's retirees and 20-year employees while encouraging both groups to continue to chase their passion and support the school district and its families.
Dr. Cherya Clark, ECSD Director of Federal Programs, joined ECSB members Robin Ball, Dr. Willie Campbell, Vice Chairperson Blair Massey, and Jonathan Harling in presenting the 20-year service awards. Mrs. Jerrilyn Johnson, ECSD Director of Exceptional Children, joined board members in the presentation of retiree awards. Assistant Superintendent, Mr. David Fallaw, offered closing remarks for the event.
