Rebels Cruise into Second Round of State Playoffs with Dominant 49-7 Victory Over Landrum
Johnston, SC – The sixth-ranked Strom Thurmond High School Rebels wasted little time taking control in the team’s first round state playoff matchup at home versus the Landrum Cardinals.
The Rebels (9-2) scored early and often to race out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter en route to a 49-7 victory that propels them into the second round of the playoffs later this week (Nov. 10) when they will play host to the Keenan Raiders (5-5).
The “Blue Steel” defense held Landrum running back Colton Link, who entered the game with over 1,500 yards rushing on the season, to just 37 rushing yards. The defense intercepted three passes, with Michael Blocker, Deonte Phillips and Wytrayvious Dugar each snagging a pass from the Cardinals’ offense. Eric Clark also recovered a Landrum fumble.
Offensively, Chris Barnes and Michael Blocker combined to rush for 145 yards and three scores on nine carries to lead the way on the ground. Quarterback Quan Edmond completed 9-of-11 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns. His top target was receiver Braylon Staley who caught three passes for 100 yards. Darius Simpkins, Demarius Tolen and Jay Sewell all caught scoring passes.
Game time for this week’s playoff game is 7:30 p.m.
