Fighting Rebels Face No. 2 Gray Collegiate in Third Round After Rolling Past Keenan High

Johnston, SC – The Strom Thurmond Rebels reached 10 wins on the season and advanced to the Class AA Upper State semifinals and a road matchup with the No. 2 Gray Collegiate War Eagles after rolling past the Keenan Raiders in a 53-20 final on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.
The Rebels (10-2) forced four turnovers in the ballgame and were in command at halftime, 34-6.
Strom Thurmond senior quarterback Quan Edmond, who has now passed for over 2,200 yards and an amazing 27 touchdowns (with one interception), led the way on offense with 12 completions for 213 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite receiving target on the evening was Demarius Tolen with five receptions for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Defensively, Josh Merriweather was a force with 10 total tackles and a pair of sacks. Shrine Bowl linebacker JuJu Stevens also had eight tackles. Nate Stevens, Kaleb Simpkins and Tre Clarke all recovered Keenan fumbles and Michael Blocker had an interception.
The Rebels now turn their attention to Gray Collegiate (11-3). Six of the team’s victories this season have come by way of forfeit.
