Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center DECA Officers Visit State House, Governor’s Mansion

The month of November is National DECA Month. Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center (STCTC) DECA Officers, along with DECA Advisor Mrs. Lisa Skinner, traveled to Columbia on November 9, 2022, to the State House and Governor’s Mansion to celebrate DECA month.

The Senate was preparing to enter session, so DECA Officers had the opportunity to see several of the senators and speak with them. DECA Officers went inside the Senate and House. They enjoyed seeing Strom Thurmond’s picture in several places as well as his statue on the State House grounds.

After leaving the State House, the DECA Officers and Mrs. Skinner visited the Governor’s Mansion.

Governor McMaster, who was re-elected to office the previous day, was leaving the Governor’s Mansion as the DECA group arrived. They visited the State Dining Room, the Palmetto Dining Room with the atrium, the Study, and other beautiful rooms. The students enjoyed learning more about the history of the Governor’s Mansion.

The highlight of the tour was meeting Governor McMaster’s dog, Mac. Mac joined the group on the tour of the Governor’s Mansion and took to everyone. He quickly became the center of attention and joined the girls in lots of photos.

“The best part of our entire day was meeting Mac and playing with him,” stated DECA Officer Jocelyn Temples.
